Which Resources Can the AutoMonX Sensor Pack for Azure Monitor and Support?

Updated: 2 days ago

This blog entry would be updated every time new resources are added to the officially supported list of Azure resources.

Supported Cloud Providers

The AutoMonX Sensor Pack for Azure can auto-discover and monitor resources in the following cloud providers:

  • Microsoft Azure

  • Microsoft Azure US Government (Experimental) NEW

  • Microsoft Azure China (Vianet21 )NEW

  • Microsoft Azure Germany (Experimental) NEW

What is an Azure Resource ?

We define it as any function of Microsoft Azure cloud available for customers to order and operate in their Azure Tenant.

What is there to monitor in an Azure Resource?

Each Azure Resource contains multiple functional capabilities that their performance and activity can be monitored to identify faults, performance and availability issues.

The AutoMonX Azure Sensor Pack connects via REST API to the Microsoft Azure management environment and collects metrics, values and additional information. It reports back to the Azure Sensor application server the gathered data.

Cloud Resources Support Levels

There are several levels of support the Azure Sensor pack provides to monitoring resources:

  • Supported Resources: These are Azure resources that their monitoring metrics have been enabled and available to be queried via one the Azure APIs. We have tested them in our labs and they are fully supported.

  • Resources without official support: Due to Microsoft Azure dynamic nature, there are many additional Azure resources that can be auto-discovered and monitored out of the box, but have not yet been officially announced as supported.

  • Resources without metrics: These Azure resources should be supported, but either:

    • Not Enabled: Their metrics have not been enabled on the Azure Portal

    • No Metrics: These resources don't have any performance metrics (by design by Microsoft Azure).

In some cases, the Azure Sensor pack will add these resources only with Azure Service Health sensor (if enabled in the Azure Portal)

  • Un-supported Resources: These Azure resources don't support the regular Azure API access and are not currently covered by the Azure Sensor Pack
